The needs of cyclists and the advantages of e-bikes

E-bikes have been a popular choice among many cyclists for quite some time, as they meet a wide range of needs and offer numerous advantages. In addition to the pleasant feeling during the ride and the satisfaction that cycling brings, e-bikes also provide many practical benefits.

One of the most obvious advantages of e-bikes is that they make covering distances easier. With the help of an electric motor, riding longer distances becomes less demanding, as routes can be completed faster and more comfortably. Regardless of the terrain, an e-bike ensures smooth and efficient cycling. When tackling climbs becomes a challenge, an e-bike is an excellent solution. The electric motor assists when conquering steep inclines, allowing for effortless riding even on more demanding terrain. This is especially beneficial for those who wish to avoid excessive physical strain or simply want to relax and enjoy the ride.
It is not uncommon for cyclists to encounter strong headwinds; once again, the e-bike proves helpful by making it easier to ride in such weather conditions. This is particularly useful in open and wind-exposed areas. The electric motor ensures stability and a consistent riding speed, regardless of the weather.

In addition to these advantages, e-bikes also promote sustainable mobility. By using them and replacing other modes of transport, we significantly contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, lowering environmental pollution, and preserving cleaner air. This mode of transportation also leaves a positive impact by helping to reduce traffic congestion and the overall burden on roads.

How an e-bike works

An e-bike is an innovative combination of a traditional bicycle and an electric motor. The electric motor, powered by a battery, is the main source of assistance for an e-bike.

While riding, the motor is activated based on signals from sensors that detect the rider’s pedaling force and speed. The motor then adjusts the level of assistance to match the cyclist’s effort while pedaling or riding. Various sensors allow the motor support level to be adapted according to how much power the rider contributes.

An e-bike offers several operating modes

Pedal assistance is available, where the motor adds support to the rider’s pedaling. There is also a walk-assist or start-assist function, where the motor helps the rider start more easily from a standstill. An additional option allows the rider to choose motor-only riding, meaning the bike can be propelled solely by the motor without pedaling.

To tailor the riding experience to individual preferences and needs, multiple levels of motor assistance are available. This allows cyclists to enjoy a fully customized riding experience.

About us

Motor types

the different types of e-bike motors, pedal-assist sensors, and the advantages and disadvantages of each motor type. The motor is the heart of an e-bike and plays a crucial role in its performance, responsiveness, and the reduction of effort required by the rider while pedaling. in action.

Central motor

These motors are mounted in the middle of the e-bike frame, usually near the crank. Mid-drive motors contribute to better balance, weight distribution, and provide a more natural riding experience, as the motor assistance works in sync with pedaling.

Rear motor

The motor is mounted in the rear hub of the wheel. These motors are easy to maintain since they don’t involve chains or gears, but their drawback is lower performance compared to mid-drive motors.

Bafang motor system

Bafang products are of the highest quality and offer great flexibility. We offer a variety of drive systems for different applications to provide the user with the best driving experience at all times.

Powerful, quiet and perfectly integrated - these are the attributes of the Bafang M-Series. Due to the compact design, the mid-motors of the M-Series can be installed inconspicuously on many types of eBike. A key characteristic is their extremely harmonious handling.

Sensors

Different motors have their own advantages and disadvantages. Mid-drive motors are usually more powerful and provide a more natural riding experience, but they are more expensive. Rear-hub motors are easy to maintain but can affect the bike’s weight distribution. Front-hub motors are cheaper, yet they can impact both balance and traction, whereas mid-drive motors offer better grip and a more optimal center of gravity.Sensors are also an important part of e-bike motors. They detect the rider’s pedaling and determine the appropriate level of motor assistance. The most common types of sensors are:

Cadence sensor

This sensor measures the bike’s pedaling speed and adjusts the motor’s level of assistance accordingly. It ensures a synchronized use of both the rider’s effort and the motor’s power.

Torque Sensor

This sensor measures the force the rider applies to the pedals. Based on this data, the motor adjusts its level of assistance, providing a synchronized response that matches the rider’s pedaling effort and power needs.

Components and service

Accessories include various components that share the common purpose of enhancing the functionality and safety of the ride.

Forks on e-bikes are an important part of the suspension system, as they absorb shocks during riding and ensure a smooth ride. There are different types, from spring forks to air forks. The market even offers electronically controlled forks that allow adjustment of stiffness and settings based on the terrain.

The gear system, as its name suggests, allows the rider to choose between different gear levels, which is important for adjusting effort and riding speed. E-bikes often use either a derailleur system or an internal hub gear. The choice of gear system depends on the rider’s needs, riding style, and the conditions they typically encounter.

Most e-bikes are equipped with disc brakes. These brakes are powerful and reliable, providing efficient stopping and consistent performance in various weather conditions. Disc brakes are available in hydraulic and mechanical versions, with hydraulic brakes generally offering better performance and responsiveness.

The saddle and handlebars are important components that affect the rider’s comfort and posture while riding. The saddle should be comfortable, ergonomically designed, and adjustable to the rider’s height. The handlebars should be positioned to provide an optimal arm placement and allow for comfortable steering.

Tires provide grip on the road, affect riding comfort, and help prevent punctures. Rims, on the other hand, ensure proper support and strength for the bike. When choosing tires and rims, it’s important to consider the terrain you’ll be riding on and the desired riding speed.

These include fenders, which protect against dirt and water when riding on wet surfaces; a rear rack for carrying cargo; and lights, which ensure good visibility in the dark. Other accessories can include a kickstand, bell, mirrors and more

For effective use of an e-bike, safe riding, and a long lifespan, proper maintenance is essential. Maintenance includes regular cleaning, inspection, and care of components such as the chain, gear system, brakes, tires, and more. It is always important to follow the manufacturer’s maintenance guidelines.

The frequency of e-bike maintenance depends on how often and under what conditions you ride. Regular checks should include:

  • Before every ride: Tire pressure, brakes, lights, and battery charge.
  • Monthly: Chain lubrication, gear adjustment, and overall inspection of key components.
  • Every 6–12 months: Comprehensive service, including brake and motor inspection, wheel trueness, and battery health check.
Regular cleaning and proper lubrication are essential for keeping an e-bike in good condition. Clean the frame, chain, gears, and other components to remove dirt, dust, and debris. After cleaning, lubricate the chain, derailleur, and other moving parts to ensure smooth operation, reduce wear, and prevent rust. Always use lubricants and cleaning products recommended by the manufacturer.
Servicing an e-bike is essential for maintaining its performance, safety, and longevity. It includes professional inspection and maintenance of key components such as the motor, battery, brakes, gears, suspension, and electrical system. Regular servicing helps detect issues early, ensures optimal functionality, and prolongs the life of the e-bike. It is recommended to follow the manufacturer’s service schedule and have any complex repairs performed by authorized service centers.
The lifespan of an e-bike battery depends on several factors, including how the bike is used, temperature, maintenance, and the quality of the battery itself. With regular care and proper use, batteries can typically last more than 5 years. To ensure a long battery life, it is important to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for charging, storage, and usage.

During the winter, it is recommended to store the bike in a dry place, protected from water, humidity, direct sunlight, and extreme temperatures. Before storage, ensure the battery is partially charged, as the optimal charge level for storage is around 50%. Regularly check the battery’s condition and charge it occasionally to prevent deep discharge.
